DREAM 002

Warnings: None, except Lovers Social Link spoilers from the female route?
Effects: None.

EDIT: This is now filtered from everyone who hasn't already seen it yet, because Minato said so. :|b 80% hackable.

It was a beautiful and sunny summer day at Tastumi Port Island. The school day has ended, and Minami had found herself with some free time after the exam results had been posted, as did her best friend, Yukari. So, they decided to hang out together at the Iwatodai Strip Mall and maybe get a bite to eat while at it. The two high school girls chatted as they descended the stairs away from the train station.

"Wuck... won't do," Yukari commented as she surveyed the shops from across the street. The look of shock and disappointment was very clear on Minami's face. "It's fattening. The sweets shop... also is fattening."

Another good choice shot down! Minami's expression became even more comically dejected than before.

"Ramen? Beef bowl...?" the redhead suggested wistfully. Those were okay, right? She never watched her weight, so...

An awkward silence ensued as the two girls stared at each other blankly. Eventually, Yukari stomped her foot on the pavement in frustration.

"This place is full of fattening stuff! Ugh!" she complained as they continued to walk and talk. "It's starting to get to the point that I'm starting to feel a bit..."

"I honestly don't think you should have to worry...?" Minami tried to encourage her friend with a sheepish smile, but was ultimately ignored as an idea popped into Yukari's head.

"I think I'm gonna buy that DVD that helps you lose weight while dancing!" she turned to look at Minami with a bright smile as they approached the crosswalk. "Have you heard of it? I've heard that it's on top of the sales charts right now."

"Sorry, I haven't!" Minami's tone was proud, for no apparent reason. The only DVDs she bought were action films and anime. "That sounds like a great idea, though!"

"Oh, but do you think people downstairs will hear?" Yukari furrowed her brow into a concerned frown. "I think you have to jump around and stuff?"

Yukari was so absorbed at facing Minami as they conversed while walking that she failed to notice... a car speeding down the road as Yukari steps into the street.  Minami's heart began to race, and it was almost like she was viewing the whole thing in slow motion through her wide shocked eyes. The sound of screeching tires brought many unwanted memories back to her in painful flashes. Ten years ago. A full moon on a winter night. The accident. Mom and dad died. So did her brother... who tried to shield her from getting hurt.

Yes, he'd probably do this for Yukari too, in this situation.

"Yukari!"

"Eek!"

In a split second, Minami had ran in front of Yukari and threw herself at the other girl, the force causing them to fall over with a THUD! The card sped past them, and the two girl watched it disappear into the horizon as they breathed heavily, still quite shaken by what had happened.

"Ah... Th...anks..." Yukari could barely speak. "That was scary..."

"I was... scared too," Minami tried her best to smile reassuringly, despite still trying to catch her breath.

"Oh... Minami, you're hurt..."

Minami blinked and stared down at her hand. It was bleeding, and the realization made the wound start to sting. She skinned the palm slightly when they fell down... Still, it was nothing serious compared to what would have happened if they got hit by that car.

"Why..." Yukari murmured quietly, before she stood up and shouted. "Why'd you help me!? ... What were you gonna do if you died!?"

Those words made Minami snap. Unable to maintain her composure any longer, she bolted to her feet as well.

"SO IT'S OKAY IF YOU DIE!?"

"That's not what I meant! I mean..." Yukari was taken aback by the sudden outburst. It was extremely to see Minami so angry. "I mean, you're... you're our leader!"

An awkward silence ensued between them as they both looked at the ground. Yukari finally broke that silence.

"And... what would I do if you died?" she choked back tears as her voice became shaky. "I'm tired of all this! I'm sick of all the people around me dying!"

Minami started to feel very bad about yelling at her. She herself said something similar when she was at her highest peak of despair after her family died. Sure, she was worried, and she only got angry because she didn't want anything bad to happen to Yukari, but... That didn't justify making her cry.

"I---" she wasn't even given a chance to say anything.

"Sorry... You saved me too..." Despite the tears running down her face, Yukari forced a smile and laugh. "Haha, I keep bombarding you with all this personal stuff all the time. Sorry, I'm a little confused. Heh, I'm a kid, aren't I..."

Yet another moment of silence passed as they were both at a loss for what to say. Minami was about to reach out and pull her into a hug, but Yukari turned away from her.

"I'm... gonna head back... Sorry..."

Yukari ran off, leaving Minami behind. She watched her friend's back until she was out of view.

"No," she mumbled to no one as she decided to head back to the dorm. "I... should be the one apologizing."

--------------

[With her hair untied and disheveled, and being dressed in the pinkest set of pajamas ever, Minami rose from the depths of her very pink covers. She yawned and rubbed her eyes, then looked at the Dreamberry's camera with a sullen expression. Realizing it was recording, she blinked in surprise and quickly plastered on an airheaded smile, with her voice being as equally airy when she spoke.]
