001 ☾ VIDEO // ACTION FOR ROUTE 29

[It's around nighttime when this video post comes up. A girl in a school uniform with a pair of read headphones on her neck smiles at the camera, seemingly used to this situation and not bothered by it at all. Judging by the scenery, she's already left New Bark Town.]

Hey, wandering around the woods at night like this reminds me of a story. If you're interested, keep listening. After all, no one's ever too old for a nice bedtime story!

[Her smile not faltering, she begins to recount the horrifying tale.]

Okay, so here it goes. Rumor has it that should one ever venture into a forest at night, you'll have the chance of encountering a creature resembling a very tall and skinny man wearing a suit with no face. His arms and legs are so thin and long, that they almost look like wires!  If you stare at him too long, he will take you. But no matter how far you run, he'll always be there when you look back. Just standing there and watching.

Some say that if he doesn't take you away right there and then, you'll start to feel sick from that day on. Not only that, but if you look out your window, he'll be there. Just standing and watching. Until the day you go insane or he finally takes you away. Now, some rumors say that his victims are found a few days later hanging off the branches of dead trees, their internal organs removed and put back inside, only encased in a strange sac of unknown material.

Oh, and the thing about him? The more you think about him, the more likely he'll come to you.

[Without any warning, the face of a Duskull flies towards the camera. A deliberate jump scare. Minato giggles, pulling the Duskull away from the camera and holding him with her free arm.]

Well then! Wasn't that a fun story? I should make this a routine or something! Wouldn't that be nice?

[Nobita and Tamashii are curled up around a campfire together. Nobita listens to the story with growing horror, clenching his Pokemon's fur tighter and tighter. When the Duskull finally appears, he screams and leaps backwards, as if trying to bury himself inside her. Of course, that doesn't work. After some comforting nudges, he finally uncovers his head.]

How is that a bedtime story? [;_;]
foolishwren: there is a respectable amount of screaming. could have been called “guy in a screamy mask with a knife” but they took a risk with the title and I respect that. 7/10 (TITLE ACCURACY: "Scream" (1996))

[... Dude. DUDE. DUDE. WH-- DUDE.]

Why would you DO that?!

Now my roomie's gonna fucking be awake all night and I'll EVER SLEEP AGAIN!

[Because her roomie freaking out is totally the only reason she's not gonna sleep. TOTALLY.]

[Henry likes stories, so he sits quietly and listens to her tell her tale. However, his brows drift upwards as the story progresses into NO NO NO NO NO NO territory....]

[And then, when the Duskull makes its appearance, Henry surprisingly doesn't jump. Or flinch. He just stares and stares and stares as he takes it all in and then puts his gear on the ground and backs away from it.]

[Across the room.]

[And out the hotel room door.]

[His pokemon don't appreciate the story at all. Rin loves it. By the time Duskull has popped onto the screen he has jumped back, but he's got a huge smile on his face~!]

That was pretty good~! If you did make a routine, you gotta make sure those stories stay scary. [And maybe he'll share a story too.]
forcefateshand: Smirking Illidan. (So be it.)

And what does this mysterious creature do to those who do not or can not see him? Are they simply immune to him?

[Illidan sounds mildly amused by this whole thing, largely because it's hard to visually jump scare a blind man, but also because he's encountered things a lot more frightening than SlenderBenderman in his own world.]

[Okay, that was kind of creepy, but he knows it isn't real and doesn't jump at the sudden Duskull. Sometimes not being a deep thinker is actually a benefit, especially if the first thing you think is "this isn't real" and don't look deeper.]

I'm in the forest at night all the time and never see anything like that. You must not go outside in the night much if you believe something like that.

[The story was SUPER EFFECTIVE and by the time the Duskull leaps at the scream, Cheria is just going to scream a bit and drop her gear. BRB A MOMENT, calming down enough to pick it back up, half holding her face.]
fullmoonfortune: (Ⅰ. let me know what makes you happy)

Woah! [Ryoji's definitely surprised. Scared, even. But his look slowly relaxes into a smile, and he hurriedly takes out a Pokéball.]

I didn't think such a cute girl would have a Duskull... I used to have one, but she evolved. [Now there's a Dusclops sharing the screen.] After I get back to Goldenrod City, I'm going to buy her a Reaper's Cloth and see if anyone'll help me evolve her.

*Hikari blinks. That was a pretty... ick story, as far as stuff like this goes. It probably would've been scarier if she didn't have a vampire monster try to kill her when she was eight.

Well, I'm guessing you're not afraid of that story, are you?

Hmm, it's not bad, but it seems to be missing something....

*...has visible horns, incidentally, though they're probably somewhat harder to notice what with the swablu perched on his head*

[The first thing that pops up on camera is a Weavile who claps wildly and holds up a book titled "Slendermime"... with a strikingly similar figure to what she described, just with a few Mr. Mime traits.

Once Riku tugs Slash out of the way, he raises an eyebrow.]

You call that a bed time story? I give you props for the scare factor, but that was kind of misleading.

[There's a shriek and maybe the sound of electricity crackling from Yayoi and her Mareep Candy experience the jump scare. Candy even faints, rolling onto her back.]

[Strangely, this man doesn't seem that fazed by that story- coming from an era where superstitions like these are commonplace probably didn't help either.]

...The tale is unfamiliar, but I've heard others involving dark creatures in the wood.
